Term Two Week Nine 2024
Aboriginal Acknowledgement
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We commit ourselves to actively working alongside Aboriginal people for reconciliation and justice.
Dear Families,
As our 2nd last week of Term 2 comes to an end it is interesting to reflect on the many achievements both in and out of the classroom. Our school can celebrate the learning of our students, their hard work and effort that you will see reflected in their school reports emailed home this afternoon.
Next week our term will conclude with our Parent/Teacher interviews. Our reports are based on the NESA syllabus outcomes. We are mindful of maintaining the dignity of the child, whilst providing parents with honest information about their child’s development and achievements in these reports. These reports are the culmination of only one semester’s work and therefore should be read in light of that. Thank you to the many parents who have taken the opportunity to book an interview with teachers – this is a great way to discuss progress and set goals for the remainder of the year.
There are still two terms to complete the required outcomes for each year level and everyone has the opportunity to reflect on this semester’s report and make the necessary adjustments to ensure that progress continues to improve, in preparation for the final report at the end of Term Four.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported our school throughout Term 2. We celebrated Mother's Day, the Sacrament of Confirmation and our school Athletics Carnival to name but a few, all of which were great opportunities for our school community to gather and enjoy the company of others.
Special thanks to the children who are the life and spirit of our school - their interest, enthusiasm, co-operation and happy manner, make this school a welcoming place in which to be each day. Special thanks to staff for their co-operation and support, which ensures everything runs smoothly, and who give their best at all times. Finally, to our parents and carers who daily trust your children to our care and who continually support in so many ways – we say thank you.
Our last day of school for Term Two is Friday 5th July.
As we will not have another Newsletter this term we wish our students and families a very relaxing and safe holiday and we look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, 23rd July.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Congratulations to our students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last night. It was a lovely celebration led by the Bishop, supported by Fr Bing.
We thank our Year Three teachers; Mrs Winkler, Mrs Robb and Mrs Jones, and Mr Hatchman for everything they did to prepare our students. We also thank Mr Whitney for the beautiful music, Mrs Parsons and Mrs Fraser for the administration work and Mr Tickle for taking photos.
Professional Learning Day Reminder
Monday 22nd July will be a Professional Learning Day for staff.
There will be NO school for students on this day. Active Kids will be available for care. Bookings are essential.
Enrolling for Kindergarten 2025
If you have a child beginning school next year, or know of anyone who does, would you please advise them to go onto our school website and complete the Online Application form.
School Uniform
Thank you for the great job that you do in ensuring your children are dressed in the correct school uniform each day. Lately we are noticing, however, that some students are choosing to wear the wrong uniform, particularly the wrong sports shoes and socks. As it is the end of term we have been a little lenient, however, the expectation is that all students will return from the holidays in the correct uniform. Wearing our uniform correctly promotes a sense of belonging and pride in our school. If your child is not in the correct uniform I ask that parents/carers provide a note explaining why they are out of uniform.
ICAS 2024
We are again offering the opportunity for our students in Years 3-6 to sit the ICAS assessments in 2024.
ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee and Digital Technologies.
ICAS Assessments are online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to online assessments. This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.

Polding Softball Trials
We are thrilled to announce the outstanding achievements of our students, Gus Collings, Billy McCarthy, and Jack McCarthy, who recently attended the Polding Softball Trials. Their hard work, dedication, and exceptional skills have earned them a place in the Polding team.
These talented young athletes will now represent our school and region at the NSW PSSA (State) Softball Carnival later this year. Their selection is a testament to their commitment to the sport and the hours of training they have put in to reach this level of competition.
Gus, Billy, and Jack demonstrated not only their athletic abilities but also their sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the trials. Their performances were a source of pride for all of us at St Carthage's, and we are confident they will continue to excel as they prepare for the state carnival.
We congratulate Gus, Billy, and Jack on this remarkable achievement and wish them the very best as they take on this exciting challenge. Our school community will be cheering them on every step of the way!
